I am going to enjoy life after 50 if it kills me!

I have such mixed feelings about the Iraq war and the war in Afghanistan.  I won’t go into all that, because I imagine most people have either mixed feelings, so they already understand how I feel, or they have very strong feelings one way or the other.

That’s not the point of this post.  The young man above is my nephew Sean with his bride Jessica.  They have been married less than a year.  Jess met Sean in Germany, where he was stationed after a tour in Iraq.  We love Jess and they are a good fit for each other.  Both very intelligent, prone to intellectual conversations, healthy foods, and both wanting to make their way in the world without neccessarily conforming to it.

Sean has always been the thinker, the reader, the thoughtful one in the family.  Yet he enlisted and went to Iraq.  We prayed and waited, and he came home safe to us.  We are blessed, as I know many families were not so fortunate.  Then he and Jess got married and he reenlisted as a photojournalist.  It suits Sean’s nature to photograph what he observes in the world.  So he is back in the thick of it, this time in Afghanistan.  So we pray and wait again.

His wife posted on facebook today that he is having a hard time of it right now.  I don’t know what that means, and I’m not sure I want to know.  She asked us all to let Sean know we love him, so of course, we are all just doing that.  Thank God for facebook.

So, if you wouldn’t mind, could you say a little prayer for my nephew Sean?  And if you do, I’m sure God will get him the message that he is loved.  Thank you.
